Shane Battier
“Sports are about gaining a competitive advantage, and for so long the traditional ways of gaining an advantage is through harder training.” says Shane Battier, a former NBA player. “I was lucky to sort of grow up in the age of analytics that pertains to basketball in the emergence of big data in sports. The way I look at it it is just another way to gain a competitive advantage, just with numbers and data this time.”
Shane Battier used this data to help him guard Kobe Bryant, as well as many other elite basketball players. These things do not show in his stats, but his team improved while he was on the court. Battier was acquired by the Miami Heat after their Big 3 lost in the World Championship to the Dallas Mavericks. Once again he made everyone around him better, and the Heat won two consecutive World Championships. Throughout his career with 3 different teams, he never stood out on the court, but he made his team better and opponents worst. Battier has recently been given the highest job in the analytics department at the Miami Heat. |
